Charles Barkley's message for LeBron James: Join TNT for playoff coverage


SportsPulse: While the first day of the NBA playoffs saw plenty of upsets, day two was having none of that. USA TODAY’s Jeff Zillgitt breaks it down.

Charles Barkley has a message for LeBron James.

James, who missed the playoffs for the first time since the 2004-05 season thanks to a tumultuous inaugural season with the Los Angeles Lakers, has “nothing to do,” according to Barkley, so he should join the Hall of Famer and the rest of TNT’s NBA crew for some postseason coverage.

“I’ve said this before, America, and this is the last time,” Barkley said with a smile during a segment Sunday night. “LeBron James, come into the studio. You ain’t got nothing to do. The playoffs started yesterday. You’ve got free time. I know you’ve got to pick a coach and a general manager. Just put that on the back burner. I’m speaking on behalf — I’m begging you on behalf of (the rest of the crew) Ernie (Johnson), Kenny (Smith) and Shaq.”

Within the past week, Lakers president of basketball operations Magic Johnson abruptly stepped down and the team and head coach Luke Walton “mutually agreed” to part ways, continuing the franchise’s state of disarray.
