Charles Barkley: Kevin Durant doesn't have 'the mental makeup to play in New York'

While Kevin Durant remains sidelined during the NBA Finals with a calf injury, free-agency speculation is up and running for the Golden State Warriors forward.

Durant holds a player option for the 2019-20 season, but he’ll likely turn it down. He’s been linked with franchises across the country — both New York and Los Angeles teams — as well as a return to Golden State.

But Charles Barkley doesn’t feel the New York Knicks or Brooklyn Nets would be an ideal landing spot for the two-time NBA Finals MVP. During a teleconference Tuesday for the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament, Barkley cited Durant’s history of social media spats with fans when asked what his advice would be to Durant during free agency.
